Cross-country skiing

Haus Heidi is the perfect location for cross-country skiers as you can join a trail direct from the house!  Ramsau is a world-class destination for cross country skiing, with 220km of piste for all abilities, including 13 loop trails. Floodlit trails can be enjoyed every evening from the Ramsau stadium.  Year-round skiing is available on the Dachstein glacier at 2,700m, and this is where the world’s best Nordic skiers and biathletes come to train and prepare for the World Cup season.

Alpine skiing - Ramsau

The Ramsau plateau has gentle slopes for learners and is ideal for families with young children, with gentle carpet lifts and drag lifts. The Rittisberg at 1500m offers more challenges, including a chair lift for those that want to progress to the next level. The Dachstein glacier guarantees great conditions on its north-facing slopes and includes a snowpark for boarders and free-skiers.

Skiing Schladming and the Ski Amade

With the bus stop just a 2 minute walk from Haus Heidi, guests can take the free, 15 minute bus ride down to Schladming, which is just one of the resorts on the Ski Amade lift pass. Schladming is at the heart of the 4 connected mountains Hauser Kaibling, Planai, Hochwurzen and Reiteralm, with 130km of piste and a wealth of mountain restaurants. Planai and Reiteralm each have a snowpark for boarders and free-skiers. For those that wish to explore even further, the lift pass covers all 28 resorts and 760km of the Ski Amade area.

Ski-touring and advanced skiing

There are countless ski mountaineering tours, steep downhills, ski routes and freerides from and to the Dachstein plateau. It’s not surprising that the area is called “Austria’s ski touring Eldorado”. The most spectacular free ride, for advanced skiers, is the 8km long Edelgriess, which descends 1600m with slope angles of up to 45 degrees.

More winter fun!

The Rittisberg has a 3.5km floodlit night-toboggan run. On the Hochwurzen mountain, accessed from Schladming, there is a 7km toboggan - for both daytime and floodlit at night.

The Ramsau plateau has 70km of well-maintained winter walking trails to enjoy. Or you could try snowshoeing, ice skating or curling. Or how about the new craze of fat-bikes, or a ride on a horse-drawn sleigh.
